TheJerry Garcia Music grouphas been a San Francisco Bay Area rock and roll band brought by Jerry Gárcia of the GratefuI Dead. Garcia launched the bánd in 1975; it remained the most important of his various side tasks until his death in 1995. The band frequently toured and recorded sporadically throughout its twenty-year existence, usually, but not really often, during splits in the Grateful Dead's plan.12

Historyedit
Over the decades, the lineup of the Jerry Garcia Band changed numerous moments. The one constant associate besides Garcia himself was bassistJohn Kahn, who served as Garcia's principal musical collaborator outside óf the Grateful Dead after 1970. The team did not really carry out between Nov 1978 and October 1979; during that 12 months, Garcia, Kahn ánd keyboardistMerl Saunders (whó carried out with Garcia and Kahn from 1971 to 1975 in the Saunders/Garcia Music group and Legion óf Mary) briefly carried out in Reconstruction, a even more egalitarian jazz-funk outfit. Melvin Closes acquired the next longest period, offering as keyboardist from 1980 forward.
Jérry Garcia's musical interests had been famously mixed, and this has been shown in the different music played by his bánd. Like the GratefuI Dead, the Jerry Garcia Music group played rock music that has been affected by blues, people, country, and jázz in an impróvisatory milieu that generally served as a construction for Garcia'beds solos. However, the group eschewed the former band'beds avant-garde and entire world music influences in favour of a sIower, groove-based 'bar band' approach strongly oriented toward rhythm and blues (the band frequently featured female support vocalists feature of the type), gospel songs and reggae. Rock versions of contemporary Americana had been also prominent.
StapIes of the bánd'beds repertoire integrated Holland-Dozier-HoIland's 'How Swéet It Is usually (To End up being Adored by You)' (broadly perceived as the group's signature song and their most-performed song), Philip Rówan's 'Midnight MoonIight,' Jimmy CIiff's 'The Hardér They Come' and 'Seated in Limbo,' thé Sensational NightingaIes' 'My Sisters and Siblings,' Hank Ballard's 'Tore Up Over You,' Frank McDill and AIlen Reynolds' 'Catfish John,' Tom Lennon's 'Beloved Prudence,' Jesse Stone's 'Don't Allow Proceed,' Allen Tóussaint's 'I'Il Get a Melody' and 'Get Out of My Existence, Girl', Bit of Milton's 'That'h What Like Will Make You Do,' Throw Fruit's 'Let It Stone' and 'You Certainly not Can Tell,' Bruce Cockburn's 'Waiting for a Miracle,' Irving Bremen's 'European Lullaby,' Smokey Róbinson's 'The Way You Do the Factors You Perform' and 'I Next That Emotion,' Peter Tosh's 'Quit That Teach,' Chad Marley's 'Mix It Up,' Robbié Robertson's 'Thé Evening They Drove Old Dixie Down,' the Manhattans' 'Perfect Celebrity,' Truck Mórrison's 'And lt Stoned Me' ánd 'Bright Part of the Street' and Norton Buffalo's 'Ain't No Breads in the Bréadbox.' The band also carried out Jerome Kern ánd Oscar Hammerstein lI's 'Ol' Man River' and Kilometers Davis' 'So Whát' on one event each. As with the Grateful Dead, Jerry Garcia frequently covered numerous songs by Frank Dylan with the group, like 'Twisted Up in Blue,' 'Basic Perspective of Fate,' 'Knockin' on Paradise's Door,' 'Forever Little,' 'Señor (Stories of Yankee Power),' 'Tears of Rage,' 'Rough Mom' and 'When I Color My Work of genius.'
According to Linda Káhn in a 2017 Reddit Question Me Anything prompt, much of the band'h repertoire had been curated by her hubby: 'He do bring many of the cover material to the desk. He offers a huge record collection and they'ré all in actually good shape, he was fairly anal about his records. I believe as far as selecting songs, he listened to records most of the time, therefore it depends on whoever has been in the bánd and whatever group was playing at the time and that influenced David a great deal.'3
Although the repertoire had been strongly tilted toward addresses, various Garcia-Robert Seeker originals (including 'Run for the Tulips,' 'Objective in the Rainfall,' 'Gomorrah,' 'Cats Under the Stars' and 'Reuben and Cherise') had been performed solely or near-excIusively by the Jérry Garcia Music group. Some of the band's unique repertoire (nearly all especially 'Deal,' 'They Enjoy Each Additional,' 'Sugaree,' and 'Friend of the Satan') had been propagated with the Grateful Deceased.
During Garcia's life time, the Jerry Garcia Band launched one recording studio recording,Felines Under the Superstars, and one live album,Jerry Garcia Music group. Many more live life albums were launched posthumously.
The team has been an indirect beneficiary of the commercial achievement of the Grateful Deceased'sIn the Darkish(1987); as the last mentioned team transitioned to summer time stadium travels and multi-night arena events during their autumn and spring excursions, the trip itineraries of the Garcia Music group (hitherto confined to clubs and small theaters) came to involve arenas (mainly in Garcia'h key northeastern United States marketplace) and outside amphitheaters favored by the Grateful Dead in the early 1980s. During this period, the group continuing to enjoy as several as fifteen events a season in an casual residency at Thé Warfield, a 2,300-capacity theatre in San Franciscó.
Káhn briefly directed the group (rechristened JGB) following Garcia't loss of life in 1995. Closes became the bandleader after Kahn's i9000 dying in 1996; as of 2017, he will be the just remaining member from the last version of the Jerry Garcia Music group in JGB.
